Deborah Silver is an accomplished and experienced landscape and garden designer whose firm first opened its doors in 1986.
Deborah Silver is a landscape and garden designer whose firm, Deborah Silver and Co Inc, opened its doors in 1986. She opened Detroit Garden Works, a retail store devoted to fine and unusual garden ornament and specialty plants, in 1996. In 2004, she opened the Branch studio, a subsidiary of the landscape company which designs and manufactures garden ornament in a variety of media. Though her formal education is in English literature and biology, she worked as a fine artist in watercolor and pastel from 1972-1983. A job in a nursery, to help support herself as an artist in the early 80’s evolved into a career in landscape and garden design. Her landscape design and installation projects combine a thorough knowledge of horticulture with an artist’s eye for design. Her three companies provide a wide range of products and services to the serious gardener. She has been writing this journal style blog since April of 2009.

Safe journey! And congratulations again to Buck and the team. It’s taken me awhile to express my admiration for this project, I think because the scale of it was so massive as to be intimidating. Somewhat overwhelming for someone with a little patch of a courtyard garden to comprehend – but I am still able to appreciate the craftsmanship!

How exciting! How long did it take to load all that up and get it safely secured?
Greg, it took about 2.5 hours. Of course the bridge crane did the actual loading. A flat bed truck comes with spools of strapping attached to the sides, so everything can be very efficiently tied down. Deborah

My girlfriend saw my post on Facebook and said..”Hey, my company in Milwaukee,Wi. made the overhead crane!” Pride in what you do continues on! I am happy again to share this post with her to see that “her” crane did “all” the work again. Great job! If we don’t get an installed photo…think we will all be so devastated.

Dear Susan, I love this letter from you. We buy American made tools and materials. Our steel comes from Canada. We manufacture in the midwest of the US. Your friend whose company builds bridge cranes and my group who builds garden ornament of every description-we are all about American engineered and made. This was a very good day for all of us. Congrats to all involved! A truly magnificent creation.
Am thinking your driver is going to receive lots of inquiries from other professional drivers as he stops for fuel, etc. along his journey south re, “whatcha haulin’ there?” And don’t you suppose motorists will likewise be speculating on what this unusual cargo is as they pass by it on the highway?
Am guessing the folks who drive these rigs and do this work “haul stuff” most of the time. Cargo which has value, but no true distinction. This, on the other hand, is priceless art. I’ll bet the driver is very proud to be in charge of delivering it safely.

I am sure I don’t have to tell you how beautiful these pieces are and I can’t imagine everybody’s pride.
On a funny note, in that last picture the drive looks a lot like Jay Z.
