fall container plantings (31)A note of caution.  If you like weeds in your fall containers, cut them, and place them up side down in a large garbage bag, right in the field.  We  shook the daylights out of these thistle stems-to remove all of the seeds-before we placed them in a pot. Teasel is beautiful-but there’s no sense to passing trouble around.

Comments

  1. Stunning!! Absolutely stunning!

  2. Have your learned how to keep the birds out of the grain? They always destroy my arrangements with broomcorn millet, etc.

    • Deborah Silver says

Dear Greg, they don’t bother mine much until the weather gets colder. You could possibly spray them acrylic sealer. A good coat of that will “glue” the grain to the stems. thanks, Deborah

  3. Beautil!!! How do you keep straight those heavy centerpieces?

    • Deborah Silver says

Mary, I posted pictures of the centerpieces zip tied to a big bamboo stake. That bamboo pole goes to the bottom of the pot. best, Deborah

  4. Good lord woman! You astound me! These are spectacular.

  5. Julia hofley says

  10. Oh my gosh, so stunning!!!! How do the dried materials hold up in the weather? Rain doesn’t hurt them?

    • Deborah Silver says

Shelly, you would be amazed at how many dried materials handle rain without any problem. Try them, to see what works for you. best, Deborah

      • I think I’m going to! I get so frustrated in the fall/winter trying to come up with centerpieces, there just isn’t enough tall stuff. Thank you for the inspiration!!!!

        • Deborah Silver says

Shelly, there is nothing that prevents you from layering material along a big bamboo pole, or a branch. best, Deborah

  12. Got to get an urn! That’s my favorite with pumpkins, grapevine though they are all gorgeous!
